Kids Charts

Today there a many family arrangements. Each family starts out with a father and a mother and their children. When parents split up, there will be two families, with only one parent in each family. Other times one or both parents remarry creating two new families. Sometimes the kids are from one set of parents, other times each new marriage can bring new children. This is why there are half brothers and half sisters, step-sisters and step-brothers, step Moms and step Dads. I call these "blended families".

A blended family is one where one or both of the parents have married again, and there are children from the previous marriage and there may be children from the new marriage. There are many ways the kids can be connected to the parents and step parents, you will have to draw in the lines with a pen and ruler to make the connections.

Each of these families requires a special form so no one gets left out. Below you will find four charts. The basic Family Tree Chart shows a family with children and their parents and grandparents and great grandparents. The other charts show three different blended families.

Don't worry if you don't have all the names or dates. Ask your Mom or Dad to help. Perhaps you can visit your grandparents and ask them for their birthdates and for their parents names and their birthdates. If you can't visit, you can send them a letter or phone them and ask for these names and dates. If they have a computer, can you send them an e-mail message and ask for the names and dates.

Family Tree Charts

These charts are intended for kids from ages 5 to 9, or from Kindergarten to about grade four, where they will need a parents help to write in the information.
